A sporty post for you on this fine Tuesday eve. First off, we celebrated the inaugural running of the Winthrop Road Marathon with last week's strip. It was a beautiful day and the entire Harts Pass staff was out on the course in one form or another. After providing color commentary at the start, Melanie and Roxie even pitched in by delivering a load of clothing to the finish. Beautiful weather and an excellent post-race meal should ensure that this is an event on many running calendars for years to come!

The Harts Pass Soccer Club also saw its first action of the season! The pitch was ragged, and match a little rough, but like good little wolverines we fought hard and held our heads high until the finish. I'll get some action shots to post next week. Grrrr!

For whatever reason, my stalwart local rag dropped the ball AGAIN, and forgot to print the comic in last week's paper. Their loss is your gain, and I'm posting the 9.15 strip a little early. Of course, this only means that you'll have to wait longer for 9.22, but I'll try to make it worth the wait.

Since the fall football season is recently underway, this little reference to the wolverine's legendary "tenacity and grit" seemed perfectly warranted. Since this is my second "Fact vs Lore" strip, I'll wrap things up with this excellent poster from Methow Valley Ranger District biologist John Rohrer's recent wolverine talk at Sun Mountain Lodge.

On the heels of Melanie's astute observation, the F.E.A.R. society gets a new name. Now we just need a better grip on the politically correct labeling of our meals... Thor, bless his carnivorous heart, remains refreshingly naive :)

PS I started saving the .jpg image larger this week. Future comics will be even more legible when you click the image. Huzzah!

Numerous non-profits, sports organizations, and assorted other interest groups proliferate our tiny little valley. It's AMAZING that people have the energy and willingness to do so many things on a grassroots "build it and they might come" sort of level, but people are people, and the comedy lies therein.

Corporate Sponsorship!

The fine folks here in the marketing department have undertaken their first athletic endorsement. September and October are soccer months here in the Methow Valley, and 6-8 strapping youths will be trapping balls, cranking shots, and frolicking 'round the pitch with Thor's grinning mug for company.

We're proud to be a part of anything sporty and decidedly out-of-doors. Stay tuned for pics of the team when they're suited up and ready to roll!

Floating the river is definitely on of the best ways to cool off. As we head quickly into fall, Melanie and Thor take one more chance to dip their toes and to revel in this uniquely summer indulgence. Of course, Thor can't help himself and seizes the opportunity for a bit of mischief...
